Causes of Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a mental disorder/ illness associated with the brain that brings about some characteristic abnormal behaviors and experiences. The real cause of schizophrenia is yet to be found, as researchers are yet to identify the exact cause of this condition and the circumstances that trigger the characteristic behaviors associated with the disorder. Even so, there is a very strong connection between one’s genetic composition and the disease. Important to keep in mind, however, is that genes alone cannot be used to explain the disease.
As a matter of fact, most scientists are of the opinion that genes do not trigger the disease directly, but only make someone more prone to developing it. Even so, studies are on-going onto the possible factors that could make one genetically predisposed to developing schizophrenia, as well as studies that will help identify the root causes of schizophrenia. Note, however, that all studies are incomplete as of the writing of this article.
Another school of thought is of the opinion that schizophrenia is as a combination of several illnesses with common symptoms but each having its distinctive cause. Still, another school of thought believes that it is a single disease with multiple factors that come together to trigger an onset. Theories surrounding the research studies conducted have revolved around the following categories of theories that actually cause this debilitating disorder of the brain.
· Neurochemical Theories
· Genetic Theories
· Endochrine (Hormonal) Theories
· Developmenta Theories
· Infectious or Immune Theories
· Stress Theories
· Nutritional Theories
